Job Title: Bar Manager

Purpose Statement:
Our bar provides an exciting and unique experience for our guests by offering a curated selection of wine, beer, and elevated house-crafted cocktails inspired by the creativity cultivated at the Figge Art Museum.
Work Environment:
Weekdays for bar management, maintenance, inventory, ordering and meetings with the Director of Events or other necessary departments. Events and set hours of bar operations within the Figge Art Museum. This often includes evening and weekend hours.

Department Supervisor – Director of Events
Salary:
Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Pay Range:
Bar Manager Pay starts at a very competitive $18 per hour.

225 W. 2nd Street, Davenport, IA 52801
Employment Type:
Part-time or based on event/bar volume and season.
Responsibilities:
1. Oversight of bar operations and all event preparations.
2. Oversight and management of bar staff.
3. Ordering and maintenance of inventory.
4. Menu planning and training with staff.
5. Prepare and serve a variety of high-quality cocktails, wine, and beer to guests in a timely and professional manner. Oversight and training of bar staff to these standards.
6. Oversight and performance of Opening and Closing Procedures outlined in the bar manual, each shift. Set up and breakdown of the bar each shift in conjunction with leaving a clean workspace for the next shift or event.
7. Follow simple protocols and policies specific to our unique venue.
8. Create a welcoming and engaging atmosphere, often engaging in conversation with guests.
9. Developing customer and member relationships
10. Operate and perform menu and pricing updates to the Point-of-Sale. Enter and close each transaction accurately and properly.
11. Communicating and working alongside Director for events, budget, equipment, and other bar needs.
12. Attending occasional client meetings to discuss bar needs and details.
12. Verifying the identification and age of guests to ensure they meet the legal drinking age.
13. Performing as on-site manager/point of contact for events.
14. Handling reports from point-of-sale and monitoring P&L. Providing monthly sales reports to Director and CFO.
15. Adhere to and oversight of all food and beverage safety regulations and standards.
16. Assist in creating specialty drinks for events, requiring creativity and a general knowledge of mixology.
17. Contribute to a positive, enthusiastic, community and creativity-based work environment.
Bar Manager Qualifications and Skills:
- General to excellent mixology skills to prepare a variety of drinks including cocktails, mocktails and other beverages.
- Strong managerial skills, interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Previous bar/restaurant management is required. Minimum 2 years.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact with guests, understanding their preferences and providing service that caters to their needs.
- Effective communication skills to listen to and understand staff needs.
- Effective communication skills to listen to and understand customer orders, answer their queries about beverages and engage in polite and friendly conversation.
- High level of professionalism and pleasant personality to create a welcoming atmosphere for guests.
- Have a sales mindset.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations, ensuring staff are performing properly and all drinks are served within the guidelines.
- Ability to handle card transactions quickly and accurately and operate point-of-sale systems.
- Ability to operate the back-of-house point-of-sale software or reporting and general use.
- Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Adaptability to event and client needs.
- Physical endurance to stand for extended periods of time, serve many guests and manage high volume of orders during events.
- Experience in planning promotional events and menu planning.
- Knowledge of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, along with an ability to advise guests on drink selections.
- IPACT Training and Certification is required within the first 30 days of employment. This certification is free, and a link will be provided upon employment.
