Masterpieces of 20th Century Art from the Mary Musser Gilmore Collection, Muscatine Art Center
Works by European masters such as Renoir, Degas, Picasso and Matisse will fill the Lewis Gallery this summer. On loan from the Muscatine Art Center, the collection was given by the estate of Mary Musser Gilmore, niece of the Center’s founder, in 1992. An additional 11 works were added to the collection in 2010 through the estate of Sarah King Wilmer, daughter of Mary Musser Gilmore. Intimate in scale, the works provide an overview of one of the most dynamic periods of French art, beginning with the Impressionists and continuing through the Post-Impressionists and the innovations of Picasso, Chagall and others.
