Grant Wood created this drawing in preparation for a painting that he never executed. In it three generations of a farm family, heads bowed in prayer, give thanks at mealtime at their dining room table. The centrally placed wife and mother take up an almost sacramental space, framed by the window behind and the light it sheds.
