Audrey Flack

U.S. b. 1931
Forth of July Still Life 75.0026

n this serigraph, Audrey Flack chose to assemble, in her words, "an absolutely American still life," complete with shiny trumpet, draped flag, firecracker, patriot and soldier, Founding Father, and Liberty Bell. The year of America's Bi-centennial, 1976, provided the context and occasion for much art production. Many artists, including Flack, chose the theme of American Independence, celebration, revolution, and the American spirit, treating these themes symbolically or literally.
