Grant Wood

U.S. 1891-1942
Iowa Landscape 65.0007

This is the sketch that is believed to be Wood's last. Instead of adding texture to the paint with the cross-hatching technique used in Iowa Cornfield, Wood has inscribed marks into the trees and hedges, a technique used in the study for Stone City, Iowa. In this painting Wood seems to be moving towards an even more flattened landscape and abstract foreground.
