Achepohl, who was born in Chicago, taught printmaking for many years at the University of Iowa. His work over the past four decades combines an interest in both natural and architectural forms seen on his trips to Egypt, Turkey and Italy. Much of the work, whether ancient ruins or landscapes, is painted or drawn from memory.
